I am absolutely delighted to share the news that Pan Macmillan will be bringing out three more Invisible Library books. (Yes, that’s books 6-8 in the series.)
I’m really past speech here. When I was writing the first book, I never dreamed it would go anything like this far. Thank you all, everyone who’s been reading the books, and who’ve convinced my publishers to continue the series. Thank you.
In other news, The Invisible Library is going to be published in Russia by AST, and in Romania by Nemira. Again . . . well, this isn’t something I ever dared hope for, but it’s fantastic that it’s happening.
At the moment, in between all this joyful news, I’m working on editing book five. Though next week I will be taking a little break and spending a few days in Barcelona. Not for work, just for my own pleasure – though I will be doing a little research while I’m there. At least the weather should be better than it is in the UK at the moment!
Best wishes to you all, and thanks again.
Oh, this is fantastic news! Congratulations!
I’m so looking forward to those books. š
Thank you!
Lovely! Just finished The Lost Plot,ā and delighted with the direction at the end. Canāt wait for the next installments! Congratulations on getting the offer for more books.
I am coming to the UK (from Seattle, Washington) in September this year for the āBloody Scotland: UK Crime Wrtersā event…will you be involved with the conference? Would love to get the book signed!
Thank you very much! Delighted that you enjoyed it.
I’m afraid I don’t have any plans to attend the “Bloody Scotland: UK Crime Writers” event, but I hope that you have a great time.
Awesome !
Just finished The lost plot ! Couldn’t put the book down.
Waiting for more adventures .Hope that the end of the book brings new adventures with both of them as partners and not teacher – student .
Thank you! Very pleased you liked it.
There will be more adventures, but I can’t comment on what future relationships (working or otherwise) may be…
What great news! I was so hoping there would be a fifth novel, so to know there’s going to be yet another three just made my day!
Thank you for making these novels all so enjoyable, I started “The Invisible Library” when doing an internship in another town and books like this one just helped me feel at home. Always have impatiently waited for the next ones to come out and it’s always been worth it. Keep up the wonderful work (and maybe have Kai wear an Emma-Peel-catsuit at some point).
Lots of love from Germany, Ashleen
Excellent! I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the books.
(As for Kai in an Emma Peel leather catsuit, or tracksuit, or being tied up in imminent peril… well, we’ll just have to see what the future holds.)
Hi, I have just discovered “The Invisible Library” series and have devoured all four books this week. They are so well written and so much fun! Is there an eta for book 5?
Thank you very much! I’m very pleased that you’re enjoying them.
The ETA for book 5 is November (US) or December (UK) at the moment, but that’s subject to change – when a release is 8 months away, it’s always possible that Things may happen and the date get put back.
I adore this series! It has all my favorite things, books, libraries, strong smart capable women, travel and hot dragons! I hope that Kai continues to be part of Ireneās life (no spoilers from me). And I hope Irene continues to have adventures for many many years.
I have a question about the significance of chairs in this series, there are never enough, or characters are wishing for them, or they are being described. Why especially does the Library not have enough for everyone, besides making characters feel unwelcome? Do chairs have a special significance for Irene or for you?
Maggie
Thank you! I’m really glad to hear that you’re enjoying the series. And I have no plans at the moment to kill Irene off, so . . .
I hadn’t actually considered the significance of chairs until you mentioned it. They don’t have any particular significance for me (well, at least, not that I can think of). I will definitely have to pay more attention to my writing about chairs in the future.
One would have _thought_ the Library should have enough chairs. Librarians spend enough time sitting down to read and study.
I recall Irene wishing to rest her aching feet in both Coppeliaās and Melusineās offices, extra chairs having been removed, and Kai sitting on floors when no chairs were available. I was thinking of them as symbols perhaps of reading and research as solitary pursuits, or for feeling welcomed or the opposite. Or maybe I am enjoying the series so much that I am overthinking things!
Or I may have an obsession with chairs that I’ve never realised. Who knows?
Still, as long as you’re enjoying it, that’s the important thing.
Delighted that more books are coming, Iāve loved the series from the start and wait impatiently for each new release, with the friends Iāve introduced to it.
I am confused that Ace Books also has a listing on Amazon for The Mortal Word pre-order, two days earlier than Pan and much more expensive. I received it by email as registered for alerts, and was really upset that youād pushed your prices so high. Then I found the Pan preorder at a much more sensible price. Whatās going on with Ace?!

I’m very glad that you and your friends are enjoying the series – thank you!
I suspect the problem here is that Ace are my American publishers, and Pan Macmillan are my UK publishers: for some reason Amazon must be showing both entries, the US one and the UK one. (The UK cover hasn’t yet been released.) The Ace price is probably higher because it would be an import from America if you were to buy it.
Thank you! The new global feature can be confusing, especially when postage prices arenāt obvious. Must be that. Iāll try not to be bitter that the US gets it first š
Looking forward to wherever the story takes Irene and Kai next!
Thanks! With any luck the UK cover and other details will be up on Amazon.co.uk soon . . .
